Approaches to Coot Management in California

چکیده
Coot depredations have been documented in California since 1886, and shooting has been relied on as the principal means of mitigating damage. Immobilizing agents continue to offer promise as useful nonlethal tools for population reduction programs. Exploration of the use of tribromoethanol in coot capture is described, and the potential for other bird management techniques is discussed.

Riboflavin-binding protein (RfBP) was isolated, purified and characterized from Coot (Fulica atra) egg. The RfBP was purified using DEAE-Sepharose ion exchange chromatography followed by gel filtration on Sephadex G-100. The purity of the proteins was judged by SDSPAGE. The protein migrated as a single band on SDS gel with a molecular weight of corresponding to nearly 29 Kd.
